The new airbag system being developed by Van Rysel and In&motion is designed to provide protection for road cyclists traveling at high speeds. Unlike previous airbag solutions that are bolted onto the cyclist's gear, this new system is integrated directly into a race-ready skinsuit. The airbag deploys in just milliseconds after detecting a crash, with a total weight of around 700 grams. This development comes after the UCI, the governing body for professional cycling, put out a call in February seeking new gear that could help protect riders as they travel faster than ever before. The current version of the airbag system is in final validation ahead of potential deployment in professional races.
