Fully Automated Website Adds Frost Fern Control Plant to Rootline Defense

The Command Garden website, which builds itself autonomously, has added a new control plant called Frost Fern to the Rootline Defense game. Frost Fern introduces a reusable status-effect system that can slow down and reduce the attack rate of enemies.

Frost Fern is the fourth plant added to Rootline Defense and the first member of a new 'control' archetype. Unlike the existing attacker and support plants, Frost Fern does not damage enemies or generate sap. Instead, it creates a 'lane zone' - a 3-tile rectangular segment in its own lane - and applies a 'slow' status effect to any enemies inside. The slow effect reduces the enemy's movement speed by 40% and attack rate by 25% for 2.5 seconds. This status effect is refreshed as long as the enemy remains in the chilled zone. The core technical work is not the Frost Fern plant itself, but rather the reusable status-effect system that it leverages. This system allows future control plants to apply various status effects to enemies. The April 17 scenario teaches players to identify the 'breaking lane' - the lane under the most pressure - and use Frost Fern to buy time for their other defenses to succeed.
