Details

Northeast India is home to over 200 indigenous languages, but almost none of them are represented in mainstream AI datasets. To address this gap, MWire Labs is hosting an AI-generated research workshop called NortheastGenAI 2026 on May 29th. The workshop will have three tracks: Language, Culture & Heritage; Society, History & Anthropology; and AI and Technology for NE India. All submissions and reviews will be publicly available on OpenReview, with the goal of openly exploring the current capabilities and limitations of AI research for low-resource languages. The workshop is inspired by the Agents4Science 2025 event at Stanford and will feature a keynote by Bonaventure F. P. Dossou from McGill/Mila on efficient methods for low-resource language processing.
