JR Kyushu has completed a trial of the touchless fare payment system and will fully launch it on April 1, 2026. The system will be implemented at 92 stations along the Kagoshima Main Line, from Moji Port Station to Kurume Station. The goal is to reduce congestion at ticket gates during peak commuting times by allowing passengers to simply tap their cards or mobile devices to pay fares without having to stop and insert tickets. This new touchless system is expected to improve the flow of passengers through the stations.
